Adult Aikido Classes
At Aiki Shuren Dojo Adelaide, adults train in a structured environment where they develop technical skill, physical capability and responsive movement. Training is active, practical and physically engaging.
Students learn to respond to a variety of traditional attacks through structured partner practice, developing the timing, positioning, balance and control that underpin Aikido as a traditional Japanese martial art and its application to self defence.
Training fees $100 per month (concession available). New student special offers available here.
Active, Purposeful Training
Training is physically active. Classes include movement drills, partner practice, ukemi and traditional weapons training.
You should expect to move throughout the class. You should expect to be challenged appropriately.
Understanding
Throughout training, students are encouraged to observe keenly, accept correction and develop an understanding of why techniques work.
Learning the underlying principles allows students to continue refining their practice long after individual techniques have been introduced.
Building Strong Fundamentals
Students continually refine posture, balance, coordination, and technical understanding. These skills are developed gradually through regular practice.
Rather than trying to learn many techniques quickly, we encourage students to build a solid foundation that supports long term progress.
Supportive Training Environment
Students work together to help each other improve. Although training is cooperative, every technique is practised with an understanding of its martial purpose.
This approach creates a positive training environment where people are encouraged to challenge themselves while supporting the progress of others.
Empty Hand and Weapons
Empty hand techniques and weapons training are studied as one integrated system. Together they develop the martial principles of posture, movement, timing and distance that underpin both technical understanding and Iwama Aikido's approach to self defence.
Who Trains With Us?
Our students come from many different backgrounds. Some have previous martial arts experience, and others begin with none.
Some are looking for a traditional Japanese martial art, and others simply want a form of training that is physically engaging, technically rewarding and different from conventional fitness activities.
Begin Your Training
The best way to understand Aikido is to step onto the mat. No previous experience is required, just a willingness to learn.
