Children's Aikido at Aiki Shuren Dojo Adelaide

Aiki Dragons is the children's program at Aiki Shuren Dojo Adelaide, introducing young students to traditional Iwama Aikido through active, structured and enjoyable training.

Children learn by moving, practising and working together. As they develop, they build coordination, body awareness and confidence while learning the importance of respect, perseverance and helping others.

Our aim is to help children enjoy training, develop good habits and build strong foundations that will support them both on and off the mat.

Energy and Movement

Classes include movement exercises, partner practice, ukemi (safe falling), introductory weapons exercises and activities that reinforce the fundamental skills of Iwama Aikido.

Training is varied, active and engaging.

Every lesson builds on previous learning, allowing children to improve steadily through regular practice.

Traditional Values

Throughout their training, children are encouraged to develop qualities that will benefit them throughout life. These include:

Respect for others
Listening carefully
Working with different partners
Accepting correction
Persevering when something is difficult
Taking responsibility for their own improvement

A Positive Environment

Every child develops at a different pace.

Our role is to provide an environment where every child feels supported while being encouraged to improve.

Children are expected to make a genuine effort, listen carefully and participate positively.

Progress comes through regular attendance, practice and patience.

The first class is an opportunity for your child to experience the dojo, meet the instructor and discover what Aiki Dragons is all about. Comfortable exercise clothing is all that is needed for the first lesson, we'll guide both you and your child through everything else.
